English: the bedrock of our curriculum

Without English, children would struggle across the curriculum. English is an enabler, opening up endless opportunities throughout school and beyond. At West Didsbury, we are extremely committed and passionate about immersing children in the wonders of high-quality texts and instilling in them a lifelong love of reading. Reading unlocks the rest of the curriculum and from the moment children enter Reception, we support them on their reading journey.  We believe that the acquisition of language skills is of the utmost importance and therefore the teaching of all aspects of English is given a high priority within school.  We truly understand that English is an essential tool for life and our aims are to ensure that every child becomes a reader, writer and confident speaker.  We seek to ensure that all children achieve their full potential in all aspects of English and leave West Didsbury finding true joy and pleasure from books.
