Mastering Number

We are part of the Mastering Number project with the NCETM to secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense for all children from Reception through to Year 1 and Year 2.

The aim over time is that children will leave KS1 with fluency in calculation and a confidence and flexibility with number. This is a daily session which is discrete from the maths lesson. The session lasts around 10-15 minutes and is practical and uses concrete resources such as tens frames, double sided counters, cubes, rekenreks and the Hungarian number frames.

The programme has benefits all pupils, providing firm foundations for later work in maths.

This year we have hosted Mastering Number at home workshops to help parents engage their children in simple maths games and activities at home. If you were unable to attend the workshop, you can download the PowerPoints below.
